There is a special scheme available in the UK which is beneficial to parents and pupils requiring to buy an instrument for their studies.  Generally referred to as 'Assisted Instrumental Purchase Scheme' (A.I.P.S.) here are the details:

Pupils at UK 'local education authority' schools are able to purchase instruments without paying VAT.  As all our prices are quoted including VAT this means a further saving.

How does it work?

Once the parent/pupil has chosen an instrument, the school needs to place a formal order with us using their normal ordering system - the school will usually have a special 'purchase order form' which may be posted or faxed to us.  The parent then pays the ex-VAT price to the school (usually when the school places the order).

Our invoice includes VAT which the school reclaims in the normal way.

What are the rules?

UK Customs & Excise have laid down rules to ensure the scheme is not abused:

• The student must be in full time education at an LEA School.
• The student must be receiving music tuition at the school.
• The instrument must be appropriate for the pupils needs.
• The instrument must be portable.
• The instrument must be handed over from school to pupil in a designated teaching room.
• The instrument must be charged to the pupil/pupil’s parents at or below the school’s (ex.vat) cost.

How to work out the price you will pay excluding VAT

To calculate prices excluding VAT divide the prices shown on our price list by 1.175
